3000+ hours of ABS printing exhaust. Stuff is no joke.

I have a casement window. In place of the screen I put a piece of acrylic with a hole in it. The exhaust for 2 prints goes out that hole. It was winter so I kept that window only open a bit to help prevent wind infiltration/damage. The exhaust hit the window and then sort of 'condensed' as it does on the glass panel of one's printer. This is what accumulated after about 3500hrs of printing ABS. N...

ESP32 WiFI weather node: ~8 mA in “deep sleep”

I built a small home weather module with several sensors and a Next.js dashboard to view readings (battery + DHT11 + DHT22 + BMP280). It works reliably, but **battery life is short, about 11 days** with an hourly upload cycle. **Setup** * Board: **ESP32 DevKit V1** * Wake **once per hour**, read sensors, send data over **Wi-Fi** to a **Supabase API**, then **deep sleep** for the rest of the hour...

Built a free Pronto/BroadLink/Flipper/LIRC converter + universal remote app after Logitech killed Harmony.

Like a lot of people here, I got hit when Logitech killed Harmony. The official BroadLink, Sofabaton, Tiqiaa USB-C, ElkSmart/Smart Blaster, and SmartThings apps all do the basics, but I wanted something fully customizable that worked across every blaster I own. So I built READYWARE. Two free things you can use right now without installing anything: 🔧 Free online IR/RF signal converter & edit...

Wife on separate vlan?

My wife's got hacked for the 3rd time. I'm not sure if the last one was her password hygiene or the company to be fair but does anyone else segregate their family onto an isolated network? I mentioned it to her and despite having no idea what a VLAN is she got upset 😂 Feels like the largest attack vector into my main network with servers etc

An actually credit-card sized smartcard with ESP32-C3 + NFC + E-Paper display (~1mm thick)

I'm into challenging projects, but this one was next level. The goal was to build a smartcard with a display that is not only credit-card sized in width and height, but also in thickness. This first prototype is ugly and fragile, but after months of dealing with issues mostly on mechanical stress, I am coming closer to making it suitable for real life use. My Ring doorbell is now a local AI-powered automation system

This whole project started as an experiment. Having 5 kids losing their keys once a quarter, i installed a pin key pad. Even though it is a high quality brand and was not cheap (i know, that this doesn't mean a thing), it is a pain in the ass. How to do incredibly detailed real wood inlays...

I start by gluing wood veneers onto two pieces of 1/4" hardboard. I laser engrave the image into the walnut burl, and I invert the same image and engrave the maple part. I add a little water to some pva glue and gently brush it on both pieces. Mate the pieces and put them into the press. After it's dried I run it through the belt sander to remove the hardboard on the maple side.

Any idea how to build a LED strip that turns on when the door opens?

There are plenty of motion sensors on amazon that offer that. But I am looking for a solution that uses magnets to detect when the door opens. I'm pretty capable to build something soldering but I am not sure that parts to buy to get it right. If possible, could you please recommend a magnetic sensor that could be easily modified to be a gate for battery used by the light?

I see posts most days with people asking what neat automations people have come up with. Here's one which we find useful and use frequently, and it's so simple. We live in a place which looks exactly the same as our neighbours', and the house numbers are badly placed, not easily visible, and not easy to read even if you find it. Not something we're allowed to change. We even get neighbours ac...

Building My Own Air Quality Monitor Because Accurate Ones Are Too Expensive

I’ve been looking into indoor air quality monitors and realised that many of the truly accurate ones use expensive sensors, especially for real CO₂ detection. Hey all, long-time lurker, first real post. I got annoyed that every "smart candle" on the market either uses a dumb remote, depends on some sketchy cloud app, or doesn't integrate with anything I actually use. So I designed my own. It's a set of 3D-printed candle shells (matte white, different heights) driven by WLED on an ESP32. Because it's WLED, it shows up in Home Assistant out of the box -...

I made a repairable 3D printed mouse shell… and it totally flopped 😅

I designed a 3D printable shell to repair a click broken Dell MS116. The idea is to reuse the original electronics, print a new body, and give the mouse a second life. On paper, it felt like a solid project: eco-friendly, cheap, useful for schools or repair workshops… But yeah… it completely flopped. Almost no downloads, no real traction. Definitely not the kind of model that “performs”. St...
